

Fall at Jamaica Bay
A bright, warm autumn day. I set out to see what might be of interest at Jamaica Bay, and the delight of the day was the turning foliage. I don’t often contemplate the variety of plants at the refuge, but on this day, each one was a different color, and a walk down the path to the West Pond or to the East Pond via Big John’s Pond, was exhilarating. Evergreens and Ridgewood
I took a van of explorers from NYC Audubon out to Brooklyn and Queens for a morning at historic Cemetery of the Evergreens, followed by a stroll around Ridgewood Reservoir. We were met at the Cemetery by historian Danny Daddario whose knowledge of the place and the people buried there is so prodigious and so fluently delivered, that had we seen no birds, we would have had a very enjoyable day.
